I made these with 1 tsp molasses, 1/2 c applesauce, and 1/4 c vanilla yogurt subbed for the sugar and although they were still good, I’d opt to add the actual sugar to the recipe next time because they weren’t sweet enough in my opinion, based on how they turned out. They were good in spite of my experimenting though and my somewhat picky husband liked them which is major win! I figured it would be worth mentioning for those that want a healthier substitute, because it does work and they turn out super moist and delicious with those subbed in.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Most of our recipes are already made with significantly less sugar, so reducing it much further can sometimes take away a little too much of their “dessert-ness,” haha!
